Leon Muchugia
Leon is an architecture student and researcher whose work focuses on African spatial practices and the translation of indigenous design systems into contemporary forms. His approach engages parametric methodologies as a means to reinterpret materials, patterns, and construction logics rooted in African contexts, positioning computation not as abstraction, but as a tool to extend existing knowledge systems. He is the founder of Jasiri, a design and research studio dedicated to advancing material practices and cultural production across the continent. Through this platform, he explores the intersection of craft, technology, and environment, working with materials such as bamboo, beadwork, and clay to develop design strategies that are both responsive and grounded in place. Alongside his research, Leon has been involved in the design and realization of pavilions and installations across Nairobi, contributing to local architectural discourse through projects that engage material experimentation and spatial identity. At the Biennale, Leon contributes to partnerships, outreach, and on-ground coordination, supporting the development of collaborations across creative and institutional networks.
