As part of Shifting the Centre: From Fragility to Resilience, PAB's workshop program brings architects, designers, and thinkers together for hands on sessions exploring the ideas at the heart of the biennale. Each workshop is led by practitioners working directly in the field, with space for dialogue, making, and exchange.

Regenerative Transformation: A Co-creative Fieldguide Linking Construction, Climate, and Materials
Facilitators: Bauhaus Earth x Ardhi Na Mbao x APC
Location: Shah Houses
Explore how nature-based materials can transform the built environment. Through case studies and hands-on group activities, participants will use the Bauhaus Earth Fieldguide to reimagine local construction practices and develop regenerative, low-carbon alternatives for African building futures.

Rammed Earth Construction
Facilitator: TerraCraft Earth
Location: Off-site, location shared via email
A practical introduction to rammed earth construction, exploring soil selection, mix preparation, formwork and compaction. Participants will work hands-on to build a rammed earth wall, gaining insight into traditional techniques, material properties and the potential of earth as a low-carbon building material.
Runtime: 3-4 hours, transportation time included.
Reimagining the Space Between Us: Beauty, Public Architecture and the Hauntings of Empire
Facilitator: Ajwang + Langat Design Bureau (ALDB)

This session explores beauty as a practice of reclamation, and how architecture can shape our experience of dignity, safety and civic life. Through an immersive VR experience centred on the police station, participants will be invited to reimagine what African public architecture could become.

Unearthing the Living Archive

Location: National Museum of Kenya
Description: What stories deserve to be preserved? This participatory workshop invites visitors to reflect on personal and community knowledge, explore shared African material traditions, and contribute to a living public archive that grows throughout the Biennale.

Imagining other stories of Urban design, African Indigenous Knowledge and Sustainability
Facilitator: Global Change Institute at Wits University

What if Indigenous and Local Knowledge shaped the future of African cities? Through play, creativity, and collaborative design, this interactive workshop invites participants to reimagine sustainable, nature-centred urban futures rooted in African knowledge systems and lived experiences.

African in the Anthropocene
Facilitator: African in the Anthropocene

How do Africans live, build, and imagine futures in an era of climate crisis? Combining film screenings, collaborative storytelling, and discussion, this workshop explores construction, ecology, and resilience through stories from across the continent, inviting participants to reflect on what it means to be African in the Anthropocene.
