THE FIRST, NOT THE LAST
The first Pan-African Biennale closed in Nairobi on 11 September 2026.
For one week, African architects, artists, researchers, communities and organisers gathered on African soil, on our own terms. We did not wait for permission or validation from institutions elsewhere. We created a continental platform in which Africa was not treated as the subject of somebody else's conversation, but as the author of its own past, present and future.
But a first edition is a beginning, not a guarantee. Independent African institutions do not survive on belief alone. They survive when the people who value them choose to sustain them.
Your support will help us preserve what was created in Nairobi, strengthen the institution through 2027 and build towards PAB28.

More than 2,500 people attended. We held 30 talks, seven workshops and a full week of film screenings across five venues. More than 70 speakers joined us, with over 40 participants travelling from 26 African countries. All 54 African nations were represented across the exhibition, nine studios opened their doors across Nairobi, and 1,200 copies of our book were distributed freely.
These are not simply numbers. They are the shape of a room that did not exist before, and now it does.
This Biennale belongs to everyone who believes the centre can and must shift. We built the space together. Now, together, we must protect it, grow it and keep it alive.
