Iliiza Denise Karangwa

Iliiza Karangwa is an urban planning consultant and project manager working at the intersection of public space, sustainability, and community engagement. Trained as an urban planner with experience across Rwanda and Canada, her practice focuses on inclusive and climate-responsive approaches to the built environment, with particular attention to how collaboration across sectors shapes urban transformation. Her work engages questions of infrastructure, mobility, and environmental systems, contributing to applied initiatives in e-mobility, charging infrastructure, and eco-hospitality. Through this, she explores how sustainable frameworks can be translated into context-specific strategies that respond to both local conditions and broader ecological challenges. At the Pan-African Biennale, Iliiza serves as Partnership Lead, where she develops and manages institutional relationships, shaping collaborations that align with the Biennale’s curatorial and strategic vision. Her role focuses on building a network of partners across the continent and internationally, ensuring that engagements are both meaningful and structurally aligned with the platform’s long-term ambitions. She is also an Impact Officer with the Global Shapers Kigali Hub of the World Economic Forum and has contributed to initiatives such as African Female Architects, advancing the visibility of women in design and city-making. Her work is grounded in a commitment to strengthening African-led approaches to how cities are shaped, experienced, and sustained, positioning urban development as both a spatial and social process.
